SZA Joins Vans as First-Ever Artistic Director And Brings Back the Y2K Skate Shoe Energy

SZA’s creative universe just expanded beyond music. The Grammy-winning singer and style icon has been named Vans’ first ever Artistic Director, marking the start of a multi-year partnership that blends streetwear nostalgia with her boundary-pushing artistry.
Known for her soulful sound and fearless self expression, SZA now steps into a role where she’ll co create campaigns and exclusive collections for Vans. “In Vans, I feel free!” she says. “They’ve always had an ethos I connect with. My mission is to show that joy, community, creativity, and fashion are all still intersectional that humanity, culture, and connection are still the access points.”

The announcement dropped alongside campaign visuals shot by Sophie Jones and styled by Alejandra Hernandez, with SZA lacing up the black-and-white Knu Skool Vans’ chunky skate silhouette first launched in 1998. The design, which taps into the puffy Y2K aesthetic currently trending, is offered in 21 bold variations (flames, pink-on-brown, and more). But SZA’s classic monochrome choice feels timeless.
“They stand where I stand,” SZA adds. “Bravery and curiosity are the cures for uncertainty it’s a lifestyle. Vans champions that spirit, and I’m honored to invite more people to stand Off the Wall with us.”
This isn’t SZA’s first dance with fashion. She’s previously collaborated with Tommy Hilfiger and designed her own sold-out Crocs collection but this Vans partnership marks her most defining fashion role yet.
