Denim Nostalgia: Levi’s® x Bode Gallop Back to the ’50s with the “Barrel Racer Jean”

American heritage meets artisanal storytelling as denim giant Levi’s® joins forces with New York’s master of vintage-inspired craft, Bode. This limited-edition collaboration, announced on March 17, isn’t just a product launch, it’s a wearable archive of personal memory and mid-century Americana.

From the Stables to the Streets

At the heart of the capsule lies the “Barrel Racer Jean,” a silhouette that gallops straight out of designer Emily Adams Bode Aujla’s childhood. Inspired by her former pony, Checkers, and the spirit of the American rodeo, the collection transforms 14-ounce pre-shrunk selvedge denim into a canvas for history.

The straight-leg cut arrives in two distinct moods:

• The Light Wash: A dazzling nod to 1950s decorative flair, adorned with silver studs and vibrant red gemstones.
• The Dark Wash: A more rugged, antique aesthetic featuring copper-toned studs running along the side seams.

The Luxury of Detail

True to the Bode ethos, the magic is in the minutiae. The waistband swaps the traditional leather for a “shadow patch” chain-stitched with the Bode logo. Peek inside, and you’ll find the pocket linings featuring halftone prints of Emily’s childhood photos with Checkers. Even the woven labels tell a story, proudly proclaiming the denim as “Mr. Checkers’s Favorite Pair” a reference to a 1996 equestrian competition.

“This project has been incredibly meaningful to me,” says Bode Aujla. “I am truly honored to celebrate my personal story, my childhood pony Checkers and the American rodeo—through this collaboration with one of the most historic American brands.”
