When Travel Meets Design: RIMOWA and Vitra Turn the Suitcase Into a Stool and a Statement

Forget everything you thought you knew about luggage. In a design collaboration that redefines the meaning of modern utility, RIMOWA partners with legendary Swiss furniture house Vitra to transform the suitcase into collectible homeware.
The centrepiece? A stool crafted from RIMOWA’s iconic grooved aluminium, complete with four discreet wheels and a detachable cushion top. Inside, the piece opens to reveal a hidden storage compartment, lined in signature Vitra upholstery a nod to craftsmanship that spans continents.

Accompanying the stool is an update to the Vitra Toolbox by Arik Levy, now wrapped in RIMOWA’s sleek anodized aluminium casing. Think atelier energy meets industrial elegance perfect for your studio, vanity, or workspace.
Both pieces are produced in tightly limited numbers: only 1000 stools (€2,200) and 100 toolboxes (€550) will be available worldwide, launching on June 18 via RIMOWA and Vitra’s official platforms at 6:15 p.m. CET.
One is made to travel. The other, to stay put. But both redefine form, function and what it means to collect design in motion.
